North Bend police spent the night and morning searching for one of their patrol cars, after a thief or thieves kicked in the door to the police squad room in City Hall. The burglars made off with two Tasers and keys to the black Crown Victoria sedan.

They found the car this morning in Lakeside, but the thieves were long gone.

The case is under investigation, but the burglars apparently waited for the perfect opportunity Wednesday night.

Dispatchers sent the two officers on duty to investigate an assault at about 10:15 p.m., said police Chief Steve Scibelli. It was a real call. Police arrested a suspect and took him to jail.

When they arrived back at the station, officers discovered they’d been burgled.

Police officers are expected to lock all the exterior doors to the building, but some of the doors are old and don’t lock unless the key is turned just right, Scibelli said. There’s also a possibility someone hid inside the building.

“We assume they came in through one of the outside doors,” Scibelli said. “But we don’t know for sure.”

Dispatchers were working in the station at the time of the burglary, but their office is located in a different part of the station.

The only evidence of forced entry was into the squad room, which had a door jam and lock.

“The person was able to kick that open,” Scibelli said.

The thief or thieves drove off in one of the department’s older substitute vehicles, Scibelli said. It had been parked outside the City Hall.

Unlike the department’s other vehicles, the stolen sedan has its emergency lights mounted inside the cab, not on the roof.

Police have completed an inventory of the squad room and determined the keys and Tasers, which look like pistols, were the only things taken.

The Tasers are not lethal weapons, Scibelli said.

Officers took evidence from the area and will be sending it to a crime lab, the chief said.

Anyone who has information about the burglary is asked to call the police department at 756-3161.

Where are the Big Brother high digital cameras around the police station, that the Police Sgt bragged about when he accused me of breaking a restraining order by the police station?
OHHH and the TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE!!

This man is my brother and I have known him all his life. I don't know what OREGONGIRL16 is talking about. This person obviously didn't know my brother and should talk about things they know nothing about. And if this person is my cousin, they should keep their mouth shut about family business. A simple "that's awful" would have been just fine. Unlike my brother, I have an enormous respect for the police. But I have to agree with Amadeus when they said that NBPD are rude. Some of them think they are better than everybody else and needed to be taken down a peg or two.My brother didn't hurt anyone but himself and my feelings are hurt when they say they needed to take him off the street. I can think of serveral others that could be taken off the street that the NBPD have just looked the other way because these people become rats. Not everybody working with NBPD are bad. But I think they should consider another place to work if they want to keep a good reputation. Unless they would like to be known as over zelious hypocrates.

______________

So, let me get this straight, they don't even have cameras in the cop shop? Way to go guys.....

6-Pack of "liquid courage"......$5

2 Tasers........................$300

The look on the police chief's face.............Priceless!!!

Ok, so i see they caught the guy. Can the PD please do us a favor and take this guy off of the street. I have seen his name in the paper numberous times. He will never learn until it is too late if he does not get his wake up call quickly. He has been in trouble since he was 16! Please help this guy before it is too late. The more they get away with, the more they will try to push the envelope.

Duhhhh Which way did they go?

oregongirl16 wrote on Aug 18, 2009 7:40 PM:

this guy is my cousin and im glad he is in jail and hope he won't get out for a while. And whoever bails him out is stupid. he has made so many mistakes that i don't even like calling him my cousin which is kinda sad but oh well.

MikeTheBear wrote on Aug 18, 2009 7:32 AM:

Just be glad they caught the perp. Someone that brazen has little or no problem just walking into your home and inflicting more than just theft.

I am happy with the overall job the PD does. It can't be easy to go out in the world everyday dealing with people we do not want to come in contact with.

As well, the crosswalk watch is necessary and very much needed. It has made me very aware when I approach a crosswalk. So good job PD!

Ok, first off - Kay, you really need to consider moving to another town. I have been reading comments from all diffent stories and you are the most negative person i have encountered in some time.

Now, about the NBPD... it is funny - to a point - but if you think about it - it is so sad that our youth - or community members are doing such things. this was a waste of time for the NBPD to search for the car - yes, costing us taxpayers additional funds.

Puh-lease get a grip. Making light of the fact that a POLICE STATION got broken into does not make one a police 'basher.' The situation is comedic, but don't you think also a litle scary in the sense that those out there assigned the task of protecting us cannot keep their own buildings safe? Making a few cracks about it does not make anyone any less appreciative of them when they are needed.

Forgot wrote on Aug 14, 2009 10:47 AM:

KAY: Yeah, well you know what? I chuckle at the thought of you cowering in your closet dialing 911 on your cell because there is an intruder in your home and you want the North bend Police to come save you.

If the day ever came that you needed the NBPD to come to your aid, they would come out and place their lives on the line for you, even if they knew you were Kay, the undeserving-of-their-help-NBPD basher.

Shouldn't given the undeserving so much credit.

Hey ENFORCE, can't you read? They were out on an assault call.

All the folks I know of that bash cops are generally low-lifes and/or of an all-around seedy nature.

The amount of cop bashing going on here really exposes the number of low lifes that we have posting on this site.

karma...the NB police are rude compared to CB.

Hey, guys
You emphasize "home security" so how about practicing what you preach. Chief, aren't you a bit embarrassed?

Oh golly gee, you're so right. I just wish they'd put themselves on a line OTHER than the two of them on the crosswalks, SIR !

METOO! wrote on Aug 13, 2009 3:37 PM:

that's kinda funny. who had the audacity to do that??? break into a police station!? maybe somehow they could fit new WORKING locks into their budget...

Criticism is easy, putting your rear on the line for oftentimes ungrateful citizens on a daily basis is heroic. And, no, I'm not a cop or related to one. I just appreciate them.

"The Tasers are not lethal weapons" Scibelli said. Might wanna check your records, Scibelli. Tasers have killed people ~ and could inflict some real damage if placed in some sadists hand. Don't play it off so lightly ~ and think about securing them a little more safely, maybe?
