Madison Elementary School Principal Arlene Roblan handed out free fishing poles to children at John Topits Park. The school gave out more than 50 free fishing poles to children who wanted to learn to fish.
Maybe, but that didn’t stop children in Empire from learning about fishing over the weekend. Even Madison Elementary School Principal Arlene Roblan showed up at John Topits Park on Saturday to help kids learn about hooking trout at a free fishing pole giveaway. The school gave out more than 50 fishing rods to children who wanted to learn to fish.
The Coos Bay Fire department cooked hot dogs, while the children fished up an appetite.
Nine-year-old Joey Grondorf of Coos Bay showed up and was grinning after he hauled up a rainbow trout.
The event was sponsored by Madison Elementary’s Community Schools grant, Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife and the Coos Bay Fire Department Volunteer Association. ODFW staff helped children with their new 8-foot-long poles.
