Republi-thugs, bought by the health care industry, are instructed to disrupt Democratic town hall meetings in congressional districts throughout the nation in the next few weeks. If you attend a meeting hosted by Rep. Peter DeFazio in North Bend on Thursday, Aug. 13, be aware that members of the lunatic fringe may try to disrupt the meeting.

The insurance and drug companies are spending about $1.4 million a day to sabotage health care reform. Don’t let them do it. Attend Mr. DeFazio’s meeting to raise your voice for affordable, universal health care reform with a public option.

One more thing George. People still smoke.

Dragonman wrote on Aug 25, 2009 9:35 PM:

You might be right George about the Dem's cutting the program. Of course they were not sending young Americans into a war that was not needed. Seems like Bush should have looked ahead when he wanted to start a war don’t you think, rather than run into it half cocked. Then after a few years of not dealing with the run down VA hospitals and lack of proper care he could have changed it. Long before people started screaming about it. Of course that would have meant maybe cutting back on a couple cruse missiles. The cut was because it wasn't needed at the time. We were not trying to take over the oil world. Also, are you from this community that gives you the brown water every 2 or 3 weeks, it smells of sewer sometimes. Maybe you would drink it. I don’t. I do believe water is still being bought.

George Soros wrote on Aug 21, 2009 11:06 AM:

As for Bush, it was the Democratic controlled Congress that cut programs for the VA: 2007, congress cut back to almost 2001 levels.

George Soros wrote on Aug 21, 2009 11:00 AM:

Rather than increasing revenue, the sin taxes reduce it. The Gov. pays children's health coverage out of cigarette taxes, then encourages people to stop smoking. Beer, wine, and hard alcohol was imposed with higher taxes and the idea to tax carbonated beverages like Gatoraid and Capri Sun has been thrown around. Ha, what about the bottle bill on water bottles, everyone thinks tap water is good again!

Dragonman wrote on Aug 18, 2009 8:32 PM:

I have read this whole post. Buttercup had a good argument about the VA. I have to agree that it got to me when I watched the Government drag their feet for our Vet's. I think that was Bush era though. Obama has made it better. I see a lot of un-verified facts in here. How do people know he hasn't read it? I don't think you are from the fringe unless you start screaming the sky is falling, like people did about killing old people, or taking their choice of coverage away, or that end of life counseling was going to be mandatory. I would like to know how it's paid for. I am sure there will be some sort of premium for it. Taxing Corporate CEO's is cool with me; or any one making over 250,000 a year. I say add a 25% alcohol tax, maybe up the cig tax 25%. Both kill people, higher prices on these could change things a couple ways. Maybe the Government could become the next pot dealer. LOL I hear there’s good money in it, and it’s medicinal. Make non-green corporations pay. There has to be a way, don’t you think.

From the AP 8/8/09:“The nation's drug makers stand ready to spend $150 million to help President Barack Obama overhaul health care this fall, according to numerous officials.
The White House and allies in Congress are well aware of the effort by Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, a somewhat surprising political alliance, given the industry's recent history of siding with Republicans and the Democrats' disdain for special interests.
The campaign, now in its early stages, includes television advertising under PhRMA's own name and commercials aired in conjunction with the liberal group, Families USA.
Numerous people with knowledge of PhRMA's plans said it would likely reach $150 million and perhaps $200 million, saying they were not authorized to divulge details.
At the same time, drug makers are counting on the White House to block efforts by House Democrats to extract more than $80 billion from their industry in the legislation."

The Democrats try to give us all better health care: the republicans come unglued like little children before a nap.

Stop playing politics, stop interrupting town hall meetings, and start trying to contribute good ideas to further our nation's recovery out of the darkness that was the Bush administration. I suggest that all of the questions be submitted in writing before the meeting complied into categores and responded in a random order. Let's not allow anyone from any party to use fear or threats to stop discussion.

Sorry kikilongbean, but the fact is that most Americans want a government run health plan. You have to remember that the Cheney/Bush folks are no longer the government.5hBjh

Kiki, if the GOP isn't helping push reform into the toilet then why are the same Think Tank's that brought you the teabaggers bringing this?? Which ones you ask.. Oh well the Heritage Foundation and Dick Armey's Freedom works..(Who are pushing near riots at town halls thanks to their leaked memo on how to intimidate reps)Yes the same guys who helped lobby for Oil companies,Pharmaceutical companies etc are now helping push the sheep aka YOU into thinking that health care for all is bad.. yes it's bad for the health care companies who make billions a year.. not bad for the millions who die due to lack of coverage.

Mr. Kelly,
Let me get this straight... You say, "be aware that members of the lunatic fringe may try to disrupt the meeting." and then in your next paragraph you say, "Attend Mr. DeFazio’s meeting to raise your voice for affordable, universal health care reform with a public option." In my opinion raising your voice would disrupt the meeting. I suggest that you get informed by listening to some different media outlets and stop drinking MSNBC/CNN/NBC's Koolaid. Note: I DIDN'T HAVE TO RAISE MY VOICE ONCE...

John Garry Kelly;
You tried, but there are all ready lunatics in the discussion. I want health care. Government or otherwise.
kikilongbean, are you from the fringe? I do believe you are who he's talking about...Just saying.I bet you have insurance don't you? Go to the Doc when you need, get your meds. I just pray nothing serious health wise happens to my wife, children, or me. We like eating and having a home.

KIKILONGBEAN -

To quote you: "The people attending these meetings and I don't care if they are Republican or Democrat, do not want to participate in a government run health plan."

What you are you essentially saying is that both Republicans and Democrats are showing up at these meetings advocating for the dismantling of the Veterans Administration and Medicare. Really?

The Brutal Truth wrote on Aug 7, 2009 1:37 PM:

The REPUBLICANS are the ones being bought by the health care industry?

HAH!

Just WHO do you think is pressuring the democrats to push through the current health care reform plan?

Do you think it could possibly be lobbyists, working on behalf of the health care industry, whom are most likely frothing at the mouth over the prospect of the millions of uninsured Amercians that will (either by way of government mandate or government subsidy) be purchasing health insurance if the current plan goes through?

So Kiki, where's the rumor?

THIS man is running the underinformed movement. And the poor, once again, go against their own best interest, so THIS man can make even more.

Shame on all of you.

kikilongbean wrote on Aug 7, 2009 12:11 PM:

How dare you spread such rumors. The people attending these meetings and I don't care if they are Republican or Democrat, do not want to participate in a government run health plan. Thank God we have people willing to stand up and speak out for what they believe.

Mr. John Garry Kelly, you are a rumor monger.
