Even in a rough economy, the fair remains popular.
Some people see the Coos County Fair as an alternative to an expensive vacation for the family, fair director Cindy Bedingfield explained.
Each year the fairgrounds see 40,000 to 50,000 visitors who come from all over the county and state to scream on the rides, eat the food and see the animals. As of Friday morning, overall attendance was down a few hundred, but she expected the numbers to pick up Friday and Saturday.
“With the economy the way it is we’re feeling really good with what we’ve got right now.”
Bedingfield said the community has been enormously generous this year in donating nearly $70,000 in supplies and labor for fairground upgrades and supports.
“When things do get really bad, then you should do good things (for the community) so people will know that things are going to get better,” she said.
