Socialist America is sinking

After half a century of fighting encroachments upon freedom in America, journalist Garet Garrett published "The People's Pottage." A year later, in 1954, he died. "The People's Pottage" opens thus:

"There are those who still think they are holding the pass against a revolution that may be coming up the road. But they are gazing in the wrong direction. The revolution is behind them. It went by in the Night of Depression, singing songs to freedom."

While outwardly America appeared the same, a revolution within had taken place that was now irreversible. One need only glance at where we were before the New Deal, where we are and where we are headed to see how far we are off the course the Founding Fathers set for our republic.

Taxes drove the American Revolution, for we were a taxaphobic, liberty-loving people. When "Silent Cal" Coolidge went home in 1929, the U.S. government was spending 3 percent of gross domestic product.

And today? Obama's first budget will consume 28 percent of the entire GDP; state and local governments another 15 percent. While there is some overlap, in 2009, government will consume 40 percent of GDP, approaching the peak of World War II.

The deficit for 2009 is $1.8 trillion, 13 percent of the whole economy. Obama is pushing a cap-and-trade bill to cut carbon emissions that will impose huge costs on energy production, spike consumer prices and drive production offshore to China, which is opting out of Kyoto II. The Chinese are not fools.

Obama plans to repeal Bush tax cuts and take the income tax rate to near 40 percent. Combined state and local income tax rates can run to 10 percent. For the self-employed, payroll taxes add up to 15.2 percent on the first $106,800 for all wages of all workers. Medicare takes 2.9 percent of all wages above that. Then there are the state sales taxes that can run to 8 percent.

In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson called George III a tyrant for having "erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people and eat out their substance."

While the hardest working and most productive are bled, a third of all wage-earners pay no U.S. income tax, and Obama plans to free almost half of all wage-earners of all income taxes. Yet, tens of millions get Medicaid, rent supplements, free education, food stamps, welfare and an annual check from Uncle Sam called an Earned Income Tax Credit, though they never paid a nickel in income taxes.

China saves, invests and grows at 8 percent. America, awash in debt, has a shrinking economy, a huge trade deficit, a gutted industrial base, an unemployment rate surging toward 10 percent and a money supply that's swollen to double its size in a year. The 20th century may have been the American Century. The 21st shows another pattern.

To Just an Observer: I'm sorry to say you have been duped. Democratic socialism has not worked and will not work as you will soon find out. There is no Global Warming but you have swallowed the bait hook line and sinker. Health Care, another farce, it is not about health, it is about control of the people, again, you will soon find that out. The plan will not be executed as you think it should be it will be executed as the executioner wants it to be.....

how many times do I have to post this?
Ok. those of you who are so afraid of "socialis" (probably brainwashed by Limbaugh and Fox Noise) you should quit using the public road systems, quit sending your children to public schools, quit calling the police and the fire department. Stop relying on the attorney general and the court systems for justice. Stop buying your medicine, food and consumer products that our government keeps safe for you, quit relying on almost ALL of the technology that was developed through NASA and the government space programs, Pay 8 dollars an hour for your SUBSIDIZED milk, pay for your own army to defend you...and the list goes on and on... socialism is sooo scarey isn't it?

There's that evil word being tossed around again: "SOCIALISM" I challenge you. Those in the house and senat AGAINST government ran single payer health care, GIVE UP YOURS. for all those others brainwashed by limbaugh and Fox Noise, stop driving on the public Roads, stop calling the fire department, the police department, the attorney general's programs. Stop eating food and buying products that are regulated for quality and safety by the government. The list goes on and on. How utterly ignorant to let the term "socialism" scare you. without it, we would be far worse off than we are. Try living in a 3rd world country where the people GET no help from their "governments". You keep on it Kay, my fingers will start bleeding from this typing.

Socialism has only worked briefly, only to collapse in debt and bureaucracy.
Because Socialism requires heavy taxes which encourages people not to work or to work under the table.
As the older generation(the first under socialism) stops working and gets there state pensions, the younger generation is not able to fully fund the pensions, leading to an even heavier tax.
This is happening in Sweden.
People love to talk about the Scandinavian countries....ever check out the demographics there?
Also, those countries have high natural resources to population ratios, and mandatory national service...Can anyone say "AmeriCorps"?
We have trouble getting people to register for Selective Service; imagine asking 17-20 year olds to give up two years for government work.

Also, those systems require a sizeble trained working class...so the school systems "sort" students by the time they're 14-17 to see who gets to go to University and who gets to go to trade school....Lacking direction? Want to go study philosophy on mom & dad's dime...? Sorry buddy, you're going to Welding School for the good of the State!

Two huge lies that have fooled the masse are global warming and health care crisis. The facts are clear that the Earth is in a COOLING trend over ten years yet the masses ignore these facts in order to perpetuate a wacky socilist agenda. The "green" movement is like a nazi religion and frankly, it scares me.

People get more conservitave as they obtain wealth , Trickle down economics would have worked except for this.
It is THEIR business plans that show profit from the wage and ship difference
Better to make everything there with LITTLE regulation than to play by the rules here

Just An Observer wrote on Jul 22, 2009 12:12 PM:

The Chinese are fools if they think global warming won't affect them. If there is a nation that needs to do it's best due to population size and emitted pollution levels, it's China.

So send us more poison plastic and cheap junk China. The fools in America keep eating it up, feeding it to their pets and handing the junk to their kids as if this stuff was made of gold.

As for democratic socialism, it works just fine. The variance between the rich and the poor is at a minimum in the Scandinavian countries. The standard of living and education is quite high. It's more a matter of how well a plan is executed than the plan itself.
