Planning may be the secret of success

Monday, July 20, 2009 |
When you’re in the middle of moving, it’s tempting to take the easy way out.
You know, grab a burger or a slice of pizza. I don’t have to cook it. I don’t have to clean the mess afterward. I don’t even have to think about it.
Geez, that drive-through is handy.
But it’s one reason so many of us Americans struggle with weight. We take the easy way out.
And while I like easy, I also like jeans that don’t cut into my stomach.
What is a food junkie to do?
OK, I actually know the answer. Planning. It’s been a theme on my blog, and my loyal bloggers have a good point. If I plan ahead, then I can avoid the Burger King or Taco Bell run.
I tried a little bit of planning last week, at least breakfast and lunch. I made sure I had plenty of time for breakfast. I packed my lunch and a snack the night before, so I could grab them and go.
Over the past week or so, I have made an effort not to keep candy or pie in the house. Instead, a visitor will find low-cal popcorn, apples, nuts (occasionally) and Weight Watchers yogurt.
Planning helps. And I bet once I get settled into the new place, planning will be easier.
Food Junkie Discovery
Weight Watchers Smart Ones have won me over. The brand offers an English muffin with egg, Canadian bacon and cheese. At only 210 calories and 27 carbs, it’s as good as grabbing a muffin sandwich from a fast food chain.
