I have grown up in Germany, with a national health system that is a financial blood sucker costing now 28% of wages before taxes. The service is VERY poor, hours long waits in doctors' offices, long waiting times before surgeries, scarce and insufficiently trained hospital staff, etc.
My mother-in-law, was dying from cancer, and did neither get proper care, they have no hospice, nor enough pain medication, because it was too costly. And she had paid into the system all her life!
dadochipper wrote on Jul 22, 2009 1:14 PM:
Rather than national health care I would personally rather see some way to cut the costs.
And Kay, if this goes through, you will have even MORE poor people - layoffs will certainly occur when small business cannot absorb the cost of mandated coverate; lower and middle class people will pay even more and get nothing for it.
You are basing your hopes on a rushed-to-the-table plan by a government that has no clue how to successfully run medical related programs.
Cut the costs...then address universal care.

"I'm tired of lining their pockets and the pockets of insurance companies."
Oh really?
You don't think the insurance companies are practically FROTHING at the mouth at the prospect that MILLIONS of uninsured Americans would now HAVE to purchase health insurance?
Don't you people get it? This isn't about affordable health coverage for America.
This is all about politics as usual, and paying off the insurance company lobbyists.
And all the bleeding hearts are falling for it!
Hey I'm all for trying to straighten the health care mess out, but this is CRAZY. Rushing new legislation through in a matter of monhts?
Like I said politics as usual! Change anybody?
There has to be a better way than FORCING people to buy insurance, subsidizing those who cannot, and penalizing those who do not.

I'm tired of the poor people in this country voting for the rich to get richer. Who cares that Doctors won't be able to buy 2 Mercedes a year under single payer medicine? Now they'll only be able to afford one. I'm tired of lining their pockets and the pockets of insurance companies. WE already know why health care costs so much, it's called GREED.
Ever notice that the guy that owns Fox news is one of the richest guys in the world? You think maybe he might have a "hidden" agenda to keep his wealth? Poor republicans of Coos County.... you are being manipulated to keep the rich, rich, and the poor, poor. Stop voting against yourselves and try to figure out the true meaning of family values.

What we NEED is to make our system more EFFICIENT. Weed out those that abuse the system so others that need help actually get it.
My problem with a national system of healtchare is that the government would run it. If you think that wouldnt be a mess you havent been paying attention to the last 50 years of government programs. Medicare, Medicaid, etc are ineffective dinosaurs. A national health care plan would be more of the same.
How about we focus on why health care is so expensive and address that first?

The mouth breathers git their soundpoints everyday. Having NO idea they are being led around by the ear by the extreme right. They buy the crap every time, their homophobic, racist tendencies are nurtured around the clock by the likes of Glenn Beck.
When you ask them to elaborate you get the 'deer in the headlights' look. They have no idea what it means, they just follow the herd.
Dumbing down of America?
Complete.
It worked.

Another thing, Obama, your president, has said many times, if you like the insurance you already have there will be no changes.
Of course I suspect that 1/2 the people on here that are protesting this don't even have medical insurance and they'll be in front of me to see the doctor.
Now, turn off that FOX news. Your brains have rotted out because of it.

The constitution says the government is to "promote the...general welfare" of the population. That does not mean that everyone, in general should BE on welfare.

The legitimacy of the state (or lack thereof) lends itself to the force sometimes necessary to protect the public and enforce the law.
(That's why vigilantes are outside the law.)
Health care is not something only the government can do. It is something legitimately done by private entities. (Never mind that it's often done better by private entities, too. Compare the survival rates for cancer and heart disease in Canada and the U.S.)

What makes ANYONE think the government can run this efficiently and cost effectively? Will the government suddenly become fiscally responsible and wise?
all you have to do is look at the picture with this article...they have not left the 60's. They are just glad they have something to protest about.
Put your bongs away and get real.

If you libs want socialized health care you can all get together and voluntarily do it and not point guns at those of us that don't , and make no mistake whether its you personally pointing a gun at someone or "voting" for someone to point a gun at someone to take there money its wrong .

That is Fox News at work. Brainwashing people to believe, war and KILLING is a GOOD thing to spend money on but HEALTH CARE for the poor citizens of this country is a BAD thing to spend money on.
That can only mean one thing, the republicans are death mongers that would rather kill then help people. That's what you people call "family values"??

you offend me standdowngal. I won't be 60 for 15 more years I am fortunate enough to HAVE excellent health care. But, you offensive person, I also happen to have a SEVERE heart condition. I DO take heart pills but even with extensive insurance, most of the rest of my pay check is going to paying for the surgery and pacemaker I had to have put in and the copays for my heart pills. i wonder how many others in my position you just offended.

Amadeus: I hope that you are not over 60 right now, because if this passes Obama has already told you what he wants you to do if you get cancer or have heart problems. Cancer: go to a hospice and prepare to die. Breast and prostate cancer patients in Canada and England die younger and at a quicker rate while waiting for treatment if they are not denied it.
Heart problems, take a pill and go home. LISTEN TO HIS SPEECHES. THEY SHOULD SCARE THE PANTS OFF YOU.

If you want nationalized health care you can go to the Island mecca of Cuba for health care , oh that's right liberals are only compassionate with other peoples money lives and dignity . and what do we have for all these failed socialist programs a nearly 54,000,000,000,000.00 dollar accumulated national debt . just sayin !!!! I have never made more than $30,000 and all be damned if I want this dumb broke a#% failure of a government in control of my health care .

Can ANYone grasp what $1 TRILLION dollars of debt is? I can't. And, apparently no one in Congress can either. Because they're all acting like national healthcare is a hundred dollar tab. And, in spite of major alarm bells going off from the Budget Office, economically challenged Harry Reid regards CBO Director Doug Elmendorf as nothing more than an unncessary hurdle to healthcare "reform."
Personally, I'd rather risk having NO healthcare than deal with the inevitable economic collapse that comes with a two TRILLION deficit. In that scenario, no one will be able to afford healthcare except for our elected elitist politicians who continue to pillar and plunder with impunity.

I wonder if POOR Republicans everywhere will ever understand that they vote to keep RICH people RICH and that's what their party is REALLY about?

Is all of that part of the 99% of government that is a failure?
It sounds like you might want to move to a country that you like better.
