New Artists Productions will be conducting its annual summer theater camp “Makeup, Scenery, Action” beginning July 21 for budding young actors entering grades 4 to 12.

Vampires, zombies and old age will be the topic of the makeup sessions conducted by professional Hollywood makeup artist Gordon Freid at this year’s camp. The two-day session will teach campers how to properly apply make-up to create the facial experience for the audience and other cast members.

In its seventh year, the camp will be offered from 1 to 3:30 p.m. weekdays, July 21-30, at the New Artists facility on Trout Pond Lane in Bandon.

“As our program grows, Anita and I discover more areas to talk about and work on in order to make ourselves more rounded and successful,” said New Artists co-founder Dan Almich. “This leads to the creation of activities to help the kids experiment with different techniques and learn new skills.

Skills and products created during camp will be used in costuming and set creation in future New Artists presentations — “Arsenic and Old Lace” in the fall of this year, and next year’s I Wanna Be a Star! variety show, according to the press release.

“It is important for campers to see their creations on the stage during productions; it gives them ownership in their craft,” Almich said.

The camp is free. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. on the first day of camp, Monday, July 21.

Parents and students interested in learning more about the day camp can call 347-2517.

New Artists Productions is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of youth theater activities in the community.
