Bay Area Concert Band
This will be the Bay Area Concert Band’s 31st appearance in the Oregon Coast Music Festival. This group of distinguished local musicians with years of experience have been a part of every season since the festival was created. The band is under the direction of Mark Allen.
Their performance this year will include medleys of compositions by George Gershwin and Andrew Lloyd Weber and an adaptation of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by John Williams, among others.
Keeping in their yearly tradition the Concert Band will kick off the festival by playing a free concert at Mingus Park.
Tagipub
The name is an acronym for The All-Girl Impromptu Pickup Band. Tagipub is a group of friends who play music at events on the Southern Oregon Coast. Their musical repertoire includes Celtic, European and American folk music among other genres. Typically, they play dances, weddings, worthy causes and sometimes just for the fun of it, according to their Web site.
Riptide Acoustic Trio
The Riptide Acoustic Trio performs songs from country, folk, blues and rock. It is a formation of three longtime Bay Area residents: Michael Detwiler, Johnny Chambers, and Mark Stephens. The three have been playing music together for a long time.
The trio plays mostly covers, but has a few original songs. Covers include hits from The Beatles, Paul Simon and The Greatful Dead, Stephens said.
Recently the group has recorded a CD it hopes to release soon.
Charlie Freak
Charlie Freak is a Coos Bay band that plays funk, rock and blues. The band has played together for about 3 years, according to their MySpace page.
Charlie Freak features drummer Tony Calandrino, bassist Darren Sherley, guitarists Earl Boots and Bill Berrian and vocalist Mike Carillo. The group says to have met through perfect timing.
Charlie Freak will be playing at Rogers Zoo on Wednesday.
