Road workers used two oil booms to capture a small amount of diesel fuel that spilled into North Bay Slough following a single-vehicle crash Wednesday morning.

A 2005 Ford F-250 was northbound on U.S. Highway 101 near milepost 229 when the driver apparently fell asleep, said an Oregon State Police press release. The pickup drifted off the east side of the road and into the north embankment of the slough. The driver, Michael Edward, 38, of North Bend, declined medical care, police said. The crash damaged a stop sign and Verizon junction box, and the truck was totaled, according to the OSP press release. Troopers did not cite Edward.

Truck was so damaged that I thought it was a Chevy. Thank goodness the driver was ok. There are so many close calls out there each morning. Nothing to do with the area, just people.
