Teen Idol starts tonight

The wait is over. Bay Area Teen Idol junkies can get their fix tonight, when the contest kicks off its sixth season at the Egyptian Theatre in Coos Bay.
Seventeen contestants from Coos Bay, North Bend, Bandon, Coquille and Myrtle Point will compete for the title and prizes including $500, one term of tuition at Southwestern Oregon Community College and free pizza for a year at Outdoor-In. Shows are at 6 p.m. Thursdays through Aug. 27 and at Coos Bay’s summer festivals.
One or more contestants will be eliminated each week, but all will remain involved through group presentations in the event designed to provide a drug-, alcohol- and tobacco-free activity all summer for area youth.
