Habitat opens new store
The Coos Bay Area Habitat for Humanity ReStore is holding its grand opening Saturday in the old Broadway Builders building on Broadway Avenue in North Bend.
The store has been in business for more than a month in its new, highly visible location, thanks in part to the help of inmates from Shutter Creek Correctional Institution.
“The inmates did such a wonderful job for us,” said Kathy Kebler, executive director of Coos Bay Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat officials had expected the move from the previous store on Wasson Street in Empire would take a month. Instead, they were up and running on Broadway by June 2.
But the plans for the opening were set for Saturday, so that’s when the official ribbon-cutting will take place. There will be free hot dogs, soda and chips for those who come between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The ceremony is set for 1.
The new store is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday; and offers a pickup service Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Habitat accepts lumber, board-goods, doors, windows, cabinets, hardware, flooring, tile, plumbing, electrical, lighting, tools, garden equipment and furniture. The ReStore’s number in North Bend is 756-1600.
