A Coos Forest Protective Association fire crew still is cleaning up a fire that ignited Saturday. The fire burned 14 acres of young trees and brush near Camp Creek, about one mile northwest of Loon Lake, a CFPA press release said.

CFPA spokesman Tom Fields said firefighters were putting out hot spots and monitoring the fire’s perimeter today. Personnel will continue to check for flare-ups over the next few weeks, he said.

The fire was entirely on private land, but Fields did not say who the owner was. The cause of the blaze remained under investigation.

Fire crews got the call at about 5 p.m. Saturday, when someone reported seeing smoke in the area. Steep and rocky terrain slowed their efforts to suppress the blaze, but firefighters contained the fire to 14 acres early Sunday morning.

Fire officials are reporting abnormally dry conditions, and people are encouraged to exercise extreme caution.

For information on burning restrictions and closures, contact the CFPA information line at 267-1789 or visit  http://www.coosfpa.net.
