the timber industry was trying to get out of leases on public lands because of a housing recession curtailing demand for wood products.
When the environmental groups were successful at shutting down logging on public lands the problem was solved.
This enabled the industry to get out from under while having someone else take the heat. Passage of NAFTA made it easier to export jobs out of Oregon.

You must be reading a different article than I.
I don't see anything about a "police state" in this one.
But yeah bro, fight the power, stick it to the man, whatever.

I don't like hippies much, but despise police state crackdowns even more.
p.s. I have lived here several years now. All my local friends have drug me all over the woods around here. Do you know how few and far between old trees are or even a grove of old trees? If you want to live in a corn field fine by me, but don't kid yourself and say it is a forest. No they are clear cuts replanted with genetically modified trees. Forests are different. Just as the open grass prairie is different than a corn field.

As you can see, the masses in Coos Co don't want facts, they just want to continue thinking it's 1910.
Ignorance abounds.
The rich have ALWAYS taken advantage of the ignorance of their people.

Kay, why don't you put on your bandana and go join them? Maybe after this you could go torch a car dealer or two.

Logging policies need oversight by all concerned. That is where to put the energies into by government, business and environmental groups. Blocking a legal sale isn't a good idea from a PR standpoint. I would be all for Earth First to oversee, take pictures/movies and write up any needed reports to the appropriate agencies if the company improperly logs. Bad practices have been done in the past, with a fatal slide on 38 being the episode that sticks in my mind the most.

The corporations left because they didn't want to pay your wages. Plain and simple. Simple is still believing the enviros are the reason. The corporations sold your job down the river, NOT constraints. You are fools to believe them. They laugh all the way to the board meetings.
Grow up and stop whining. Get a job.
