The Coos Bay Urban Renewal Agency is considering whether to form a closer partnership with the South Coast Development Council. The agency is scheduled to discuss whether to allocate up to $25,000 to the SCDC at its meeting tonight.

Under the agreement, the SCDC would provide training and services that the city currently doesn’t have in-house. Those would include helping the city with its business retention program, as well as providing quarterly reports to document how the SCDC has helped the city.

The Urban Renewal Agency also will consider expanding its downtown district’s boundary, and making improvements to the Ped Way, the open space south of the Egyptian Theatre. It’s intended as a walkway for access to businesses on Highway 101.

The URA meets following the City Council meeting that starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 500 Central Ave.

The City Council will consider a request from Police Chief Rodger Craddock to oppose a liquor license renewal at Mak’s Old City Hall. He wants the council to oppose the license because of the number of police calls at Mak’s.

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission decides on licenses, but city recommendations influence the decisions.

Craddock made a similar request regarding Mak’s last year, when he also recommended denial for Stray Kats Bar, formerly Gussie’s. At a council meeting packed by supporters of the two establishments,  Craddock changed course and recommended approval for Stray Kats. He asked for more time on Mak’s license, and it was later recommended.

What is the purpose of The Business Incubator?

SCDC?

Name five jobs, other than staff, SCDC has brought into this town.

Their business depends on offering business interested in relocating every possible freebie the county can muster, every tax loophole known to man. Tell me again how that benefits the taxpayers of this county?

LOL

Isn't that an interesting shuffle of funds?

Come on guys you can do better. Why do you need the money?

"SCDC would provide training and services that the city currently doesn’t have in-house"

What is the purpose of the program?

They should be doing this anyway. Is this to meet the Salary of Messerle by chance?
