North Coos picked up a key American Legion baseball sweep Sunday, rallying to beat North Eugene 3-2 in the nightcap after taking a 6-3 victory in the opener.

The Waterfront improved to 8-4 in Area 4 play and pulled in front of North Eugene, which fell to 9-6. North Coos is in third place heading into a twin bill at Roseburg Horizon on Wednesday, and the top three teams in the division advance to the Legion A State Tournament. The Waterfront hosts league-leading Roseburg Pepsi on Friday.

The Waterfront needed a late comeback to earn the sweep Sunday at Clyde Allen Field, even though North Eugene managed just one hit in the game.

North Eugene got single runs in both the second and third innings, both aided by errors and walks from North Coos, and still led 2-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning.

Elliott Aurdahl hit a leadoff single in the sixth and Dalton Iveans smashed a two-run home run to left to tie the score.

In the seventh inning, Tim Raybould had a one-out double. Pinch runner Ryan Love then scored on a single by Jimmy Mack, giving the Waterfront its win.

Connor Jackson did not allow any hits while pitching the first six innings for North Coos. Ryan Delaney led off the seventh with a double off Aurdahl for North Eugene’s only hit, but was stranded there as Aurdahl got a strikeout and two grounders to end the game.

Iveans, Mack and Nic Canaday each had two hits in the victory.

In the first game, Michael Bennett and Sawyer Wilson limited North Eugene to just three hits.

The Waterfront took the lead for good in the second inning, when North Coos had five straight hits.

Love had a double, followed by a single from Heston Altenbach, an RBI single by Mack, a single by Ryan Campbell and a run-scoring single by Aurdahl.

Aurdahl, who had three hits in the game, scored in the first inning when he singled, Iveans hit a double to center and Canaday hit an RBI grounder.

In the third inning, Canaday doubled, Wilson had an infield single, Love had an RBI groundout, Altenbach singled and Mack hit an RBI single as North Coos stretched its lead to 5-2.

Bennett helped his own cause with an RBI single in the fourth, driving in Iveans, who had reached base on a fielder’s choice and moved up on a single by Canaday.

North Coos pounded out 15 hits in the win, including three each by Aurdahl and Altenbach and two by Canaday and Mack.
