May 16 marked the completion of the fundraising campaign with the 13th-annual Kiwanis-Doernbecher Children’s Cancer Program Memorial Bicycle Tour. This event was a huge success especially in light of the current economic situation.

We met our goal to raise $25,000 to donate to the Children’s Cancer Program. Our Bike Tour raised more than $12,000 that will be combined with the other funds raised by our Coins for Kids from all our elementary school donations and with the help of our North Bend High School Key Club raised almost $8,000.

A special thank you to all our very generous corporate sponsors. We know that these are tough economic times and we appreciate all the sponsors that gave from $50 up to $500. Your contribution helped us make our final goal. Kiwanis Clubs of the Coast, we could not do this event without all Kiwanis support. All who gave, from the 49 bike riders to the donors to the volunteers, are to be praised for the unselfish giving that will benefit the children sick with cancer.

In one year, more than 900 children are seen at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital from Coos County, more than 200 children from Curry County, more than 1,300 from Douglas County and more than 3,600 from Lane County. This hospital has seen children from every county in Oregon each year. Many of you know at least one child who has been to Doernbecher’s for some sort of treatment. They are well respected and well known for their state-of-the-art research, professionalism and over-all care given to our young. Doernbecher’s serves our hurting children and has made a difference.

We thank you again for your continued support and prayers for the healing and growth of all our young children who are our future.

Look forward to working with you next year.
