Wednesday, July 1, 2009 10:18 AM PDT

Medics took three people to a hospital Tuesday evening after a car went airborne off the Coos River Highway and struck two trees.

The southbound 1997 Honda Accord skidded off the road near a blind right-hand curve at milepost 16.8. It landed upside down near a driveway about 30 feet from the road.

A passenger in the back of the car, Samuel Tyree, 19, of North Bend, broke his pelvis and left femur, an Oregon State Police press release said. Emergency responders got him out of the vehicle and took him to Bay Area Hospital. The driver, Jesse Knight, 19, of Coos Bay; and another passenger, Jessica Owens, 19, of Coos Bay, also went to the hospital for treatment.

Police cited Knight on charges of reckless driving, minor in possession of alcohol, driving uninsured and failure to maintain lane.
