The Three Rivers Sandblasters have cooled off after their strong start to the American Legion season, and are looking for a win tonight to get back on track after five straight losses.

The Sandblasters fell 23-13 to Salem Post 9 on Monday, dropping to 5-4 in Zone 3 play and 7-6 overall.

Post 9 scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back, in the process becoming the first Zone 3 team besides Richey’s Market or Withnell Dodge to beat the Sandblasters this summer. Three Rivers won its first two games against the Postmen.

The Sandblasters host Albany tonight at 5 p.m., with ace Bryce Weidman on the mound, hoping to get back on track. The same two teams meet Wednesday in Albany and Three Rivers hosts nonleague foe Beaverton for a single game Thursday and a doubleheader Friday.

Three Rivers started 5-1 in league play before losses to Richey’s Market and Withnell Dodge last week. Then the Sandblasters dropped two in a row to the Eugene Challengers, by scores of 10-7 and 6-5.

The latter of those two losses, on Saturday, was particularly tough to take. Drew Rainwater had given Three Rivers a late lead with a two-run home run, but Eugene scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to win.
