The Empire Clamboree will showcase the historic Empire area today, with food and fun at sites throughout the area.

Here’s a schedule:

Empire Dock/Boat Ramp

10-11 a.m.: The Friends of South Slough will present a game of “Gooey Golf.”

11:30 a.m.: The first of three hollering contests.

1-5 p.m.: The Betty Kay will offer half-hour round-trip excursions to the North Spit. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 per family.

1-2:30 p.m.: U.S. Coast Guard helicopter open house.

2:30-3 p.m.: Coast Guard search and rescue demonstration (no Betty Kay rides).

3 p.m.: Confederated Tribes offer a canoe exhibition.

4 and 6 p.m.: More hollering contests .

Throughout the day: An information booth will have free self-guided historical tour brochures and Clamboree Cookbooks for purchase.

Ed Lund Park

Music will play throughout the day, next to booths with clam dishes, other foods, Clamboree merchandise and other items for sale. Local fisherman Seth Smith will offer a seminar on safe clamming, with a display case of live clams.

Tribal Hall

Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Tribes Tribal Hall and Administration Office, 1245 Fulton Ave.

Pictures will be on display, as well as a video, “Dark Waters,” about the tribes’ history. Tribal members also will be fashioning traditionally wares, such as cedar bark baskets. Doors will be open from 2 to 5.
