The annual Southwestern Oregon Youth Golf Clinic, sponsored by the Coquille Indian Tribe, is scheduled for Thursday, July 16, at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort Practice Center.
The free clinic is for golfers ages 7 to 18. Students 14 to 18 who participate in the clinic also might be chosen for a three-day golf camp, Aug. 9-11, at Watson Ranch Golf. To be picked for the camp, golfers must participate in the clinic.
The clinic for students ages 12 to 18 will run from 1 to 4:45 p.m. on July 16, with registration set to begin at 12:30. At 3 p.m., participants will play the par-3 course at the practice center.
The clinic for students ages 7 to 11 will begin at 2:45 p.m., with registration at 2:30.
A motivational speaker will address both groups. During each clinic, the groups also will be divided into stations to work on short game, putting and full swing.
To help pay for the golf camp, an adult fundraiser tournament will be held on July 18 at Watson Ranch Golf. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
Immediately following the tournament, a barbecue luncheon and awards banquet will be held at the The Mill Casino-Hotel Salmon Room.
Up to 25 teams can participate in the four-man scramble tournament. The fee is $125 for individuals or $475 for players signing up as a team.
Prizes will be presented to the top three gross and net teams, as well as closest to the pin for men and women.
The number of scholarships available for the youth camp will depend on the number of teams that play in the tournament.
Sponsorship opportunities also are available for businesses.
