Traffic on both sides of the McCullough Bridge was stopped for well over an hour Wednesday afternoon following a four-vehicle accident on the north side of the bridge. While the accident was cleared, both north and south movement was stopped. Some drivers got out of their cars and talked until things got moving again in this view looking north from the Coos Historical & Maritime Museum. Traffic was backed up south of the bridge to The Mill Casino-Hotel before it started slowly moving again.
Medics took a Reedsport woman and a Medford woman to the hospital Wednesday following a three-vehicle accident that shut down the McCullough Bridge for more than an hour and a half.
Jackie Bernard, 54, of Reedsport, who was driving a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser; and Aieriel Davidson, 20, of Medford, a passenger in a 2006 Chevrolet bus, were taken to Bay Area Hospital. Bernard was in fair condition this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said, while Davidson had been treated and released.
The Cruiser was heading north on U.S. Highway 101 when Bernard suffered an unknown medical condition, an Oregon State Police press release said. The Cruiser hit the curb on the bridge's east sidewalk, crossed into the southbound lane and hit the bus. The bus slid sideways, went up onto the west sidewalk, then slid off and into the northbound lane, where it hit a 2005 Honda Civic.
Other than the two women taken to the hospital, all other drivers and passengers refused medical care, a North Bay Fire Department press release said.
The crash blocked traffic in both directions while police diverted southbound drivers onto East Bay Drive, said OSP Sgt. Steve Mitchell.
Traffic began crossing the bridge again at about 2:20 p.m.
No citations have been issued, though troopers are continuing their investigation, Sgt. John Keeler said.
OSP troopers, North Bay and North Bend firefighters, Bay Cities Ambulance and the Oregon Department of Transportation responded to the scene.
In an unrelated incident, no one was hurt Wednesday when a pickup hauling an 18-foot boat went off U.S. Highway 101 and overturned near an ODOT construction zone.
The truck was heading north from Winchester Bay when vehicles in front of it stopped for construction flaggers.
The truck steered to the right, went down an embankment and overturned, though the trailer and boat remained upright, Keeler said. The driver, James Carsner, 79, of Reedsport, declined medical treatment, Keeler said. No citations were issued.

What about the wreck at Burger King by WalMart on Wednesday also? I was one of the witnesses there, and would like to know how the two ladies and little boys are doing.
