Firefighters from Coos Forest Protective Association and Bandon Rural Fire Protection District corralled a fire Wednesday before it could reach a Bandon home and two outbuildings.

Firefighters went to McTimmons Lane south of Bandon at about 1 p.m., on a report of an out-of-control debris burn. The two fire agencies responded with 10 firefighters, three engines and one water tender from Bandon, along with 17 firefighters, six engines, one water tender and a bulldozer.

They kept the fire contained to one acre of gorse, brush and shore pine. Although the structures were threatened, they were undamaged, a CFPA press release says.

Fire officials are reminding people to use caution when burning. Backyard burn piles and burn barrels outside incorporated requires a permits from CFPA. City residents should contact their local fire departments for regulations.

CFPA offers these reminders:

• Follow all guidelines on your permit.

• Never burn on windy days.

• Make sure that you have a charged garden hose and a shovel at the burn site.

• Scrape a trail down to mineral soil around the burn site to prevent the fire from escaping.

• Never leave a burn pile unattended.

• Make sure the fire is completely out before leaving.

Fire officials are reporting abnormally dry conditions, and all fire activity should be done with extreme caution.

For further information on burning restrictions and closures, contact the CFPA Closure Information Line at 267-1789 or visit www.coosfpa.net.
