A Coos County jury convicted a former Coos Bay man of raping two teen girls.

Jurors found Thomas H. Wilson, 34, guilty on Wednesday of three counts of first-degree rape, following a two-day trial presided over by Judge Martin Stone.

One count stems from the rape of a teenage acquaintance in 1999 on "property associated with Mr. Wilson" on South Coos River Lane, according to a press release from the district attorney's office. The other two counts are associated with two incidents in 2003, in which he raped a second 16-year-old on the same property.

The jury found Wilson not guilty of two additional counts of first-degree rape related to the second victim in 2003.

First-degree rape is covered by the Measure 11 sentencing initiative. The law decrees a mandatory minimum sentence of eight years and four months in prison per count.

A sentencing hearing is set for 9 a.m. Friday in Stone's courtroom.

I asked this yesterday, but evidently, The World didn't think it was worthy enough so, I will ask again. Why on earth has it taken soooo long to prosecute this sicko on these charges? Did I miss something here? It's about time at least one of these predators are going to be held accountable for their actions and get the max sentence for what he did to these girls. I have to agree with ORECOAST also.

25 years. Now I feel like there is justice here. The only problem I see with this is that this guy will only be 59 years old when he is released. It's to bad the other two counts didn't stick.

Although I am very happy this creep is going to be put away for a very long time, why did it take so long for these charges to be brought? One 10 years and one & 7 years. I don't understand, can anyone enlighten me?
