Readers don’t need brothel news

I am the mother of three children. One of my sons is interested in our daily newspaper, especially the comics. I was very offended at the “news” report and picture on the hard economic times of prostitutes and brothels.

What are we, the readers, supposed to feel reading about this? Sorry for them? How is this news and why should we care? As you know, this story was printed on the page opposite the comics that my kids look at. The World is not a family newspaper. The paper has been reduced to a tabloid.  And what about the Dear Abby type columns that run with countless sexually perverse topics? At least this column is no longer printed next to the comics.

Will anyone else stand up for morality in our community? There is enough junk in media to filter out, why should we have to do this with our local small town newspaper?

Thank you Lori! The newspaper needs to be careful of what they print and where they place it. And thank you also for being a mom who screens her children's reading material.

L9L: You don't know the age of her children or the situation. Some responsible parents chose to 'insulate' their children from things they find inappropriate for their age and understanding level. It does not mean they are isolating them from reality.

Lori- What are you complaining about? Using age appropriate language, you have a golden opportunity to talk with your children about sexuality issues in their world. You can censor, you can deny, you can hide but at some point if you don't convey your family values to your children they will find their own. Its called the Internet. While I agree the comics page isn't the best choice for such an article it doesn't change the fact that you are missing an opportunity.
