Sherriff's deputies arrested a Coos Bay man early this morning on a sex abuse charge in an incident involving a teenage girl.

At about 1:30 a.m., deputies were called out to a home on Spring Road after a man called police about a disturbance at the location, according to a Coos County press release.

After an investigation, deputies determined the girl had been touched inappropriately by a 28-year-old man. The man, identified as Scott Rabe, had left the house, but was later found hiding nearby in brush. Deputies arrested him on charges of second-degree sex abuse and providing a false name.

Sgt. Pat Downing said he wasn't sure what relationship Rabe had to the girl. Rabe was taken to Coos County jail, where he was being held this morning on $32,500 bail.

As a citizens of this county, (city) I would do what I could to help out our local justice system by voting to pass stiffer laws here. I'm just a regular guy, I want my children safe. I'd vote for a good law to punish these guys like they need to be. They can’t hurt our children if they are locked up for a long time. And from what I have read, most reoffend.

The thing is... 30+ years ago, preying on kids was either legal (nobody cared if the 25 year old man was sleeping with the high school girl, unless she was your daughter), brushed off by the police, or "street justice" was the punishment.

People act as if certain problems are more prevalent in today's society... some, such as gang violence, perhaps. But people are NOT more perverse than they were 40 years ago... it's just that nobody was talking about it.

Is it in the water or what? This is just sick! Also a little too close to home for me! Everyday it seems someone is raping the children in this county!
