Fourmile Logging finished second in the Yoncalla Babe Ruth tournament last weekend, after playing four games on Sunday.
The South Coast Babe Ruth team beat North Douglas 8-1 to open the tournament on Saturday. Doug Molzahn was the winning pitcher and Tyler Davidson had two doubles.
The following morning, Fourmile Logging played Sutherlin and lost a tough 3-2 decision as Sutherlin’s Robert Collins allowed just four hits in five innings. Eric Rains had two of Fourmile Logging’s hits, including a triple.
Fourmile Logging then got a complete-game pitching effort from Cody Anderson in a 5-2 win over North Douglas. Davison and Rains each had two hits. Rains had a double and Michael Benitez a triple.
Fourmile Logging then avenged its earlier loss to Sutherlin with an 8-3 win to reach the championship game. Rains hit a home run over the scoreboard and Molzahn was the winning pitcher and had three hits. Anderson added two singles and Raymond Jones earned the save.
Sutherlin won the championship game 5-3, taking the lead in the fourth inning.
Zach Thrall and Molzahn each had two hits for Fourmile Logging.
Other team members included Alex Dew, Wyatt Griffith, Jared Hackney and Mitch Salcido. Coaches included Gary Grassham and Rick Spring. The team is sponsored by Fourmile Logging, which is owned by Dennis Moody and Mike Laird.
Fourmile cycle
Tyler Davidson, a member of the Fourmile Logging 14- and 15-year-old Babe Ruth team, recently hit for the cycle during a league game against Hill Trucking at Clyde Allen Field.
Davidson had a double his first time up. He then homered over the left-field fence to lead off an inning and tripled later in the same inning. Davidson beat out the throw for an infield single to complete the cycle.
Fourmile Logging coach Rick Spring said it’s the first time he’s had a player hit for the cycle in many years working with Babe Ruth.
