Airport workers were greatly kind

There has been a lot of negative news about the airport in the last few months, so I felt I had to write this letter to let the public know of extraordinary events I witnessed at the airport on May 22.

I arrived early for my flight and there were only a few people around, mostly workers. There was however an extremely mentally and physically handicapped woman in a wheelchair. She was being tended to by the workers. I asked what was going on? Was she OK? Apparently the woman was ticketed to North Bend from California by her family, instead of Bend, where they were waiting for her. She ended up spending three hours of the afternoon in the airport while waiting to get on another flight over to Bend. The employees of the airport were just tremendous with her. She was given food at no charge and I watched a woman hand feed her for more than an hour to get all the food into her. The station manager arranged for her to get to Bend so she could get to her family that same night. Three female employees took her to the restroom. They gave her small sips of water and waited patiently for her to swallow it.

This compassion not only brought tears to my eyes, but to those of the people helping her and to the other passengers who were witnessing all of this. I asked the woman in the cafe the names of those involved so I could write this letter and she stated, "We don't want or need recognition. I just worry that she won't get the same treatment the rest of her trip and she is a wonderful, remarkable woman."

I did finally find out their names. Therefore, I would like to thank the following, Terra of the Hangar Cafe, Bruce, the Sky West station manager and his agent, Angie; Nancy from the volunteer program, Betsy from TSA security; and Donny from the airport operations. Thank you also to the other agents who boarded the flight and the airline crew. The woman was all smiles upon leaving North Bend.

In times of frustration with airlines and overall life depressions, I as other passengers that day, will remember the kindness, compassion, patience and giving of these airport workers.

God bless you all.
