Coos County's Board of Commissioners will be talking about liquefied natural gas facility permitting again sometime this summer. They just don't know when.

The board approved Jordan Cove Energy Project's land-use application in December 2007. Its decision was appealed to the Land Use Board of Appeals, which took issue with wetland and archaeological protections. The case has been held in limbo over an appeal regarding potential tsunami impacts, but it is expected to be sent back to the county by the end of the month. When that happens, the county will have 30 days to schedule a hearing, said Planning Director Patty Evernden.

It's up to the board to decide whether to take new testimony, said county counsel Jackie Haggerty. If members decide to take new testimony, it will be limited to the issues remanded by LUBA.

In its ruling, LUBA said the county needs to produce a plan to protect "historic, cultural and archeological resources on the site." It also must resolve discrepancies about where wetlands are located.

What a joke! Of all the many, many things wrong with siting an LNG terminal in Coos County at its present proposed location, the only thing they could find wrong was archeological.

Too funny!
