North Bend police are still searching for suspects in an  arson fire that  damaged a building on Southwest Oregon Regional Airport property on May 24.

The building houses the offices and a warehouse associated with an apparent salvage yard business. Police determined the fire was caused by arson shortly after  the damage occurred.

"It's kind of a complicated case," North Bend Police Detective Milo Arneson said. "It's time consuming. We're still working on it."

Arneson said he couldn't offer more information at this point without compromising the case.

An incendiary device found inside the building prompted an evacuation of the building by arson investigators the afternoon of the fire. The device was determined to not be of explosive nature, it just intensified the fire, Arneson said.

"It was basically to accelerate a burn for a long period of time," he said.

The fire started sometime before 4:20 a.m.

Arneson said police are still waiting for the state fire marshal's report to confirm the exact time the fire started, and by next week should know more about the case.

Signs were posted on the property a week before the fire indicating the business name is Sanford & LeTellier. A letter signed by Daniel Simmons of Sanford & LeTellier said the signs were to "bring attention to the plight of the owners of the buildings and their difficulty dealing with the (airport) Executive Director Gary LeTellier."

The building and property at 1390 Airport Lane is being leased by Leander Land & Livestock.

A crime team consisting of officers from North Bend, Coos Bay, Myrtle Point and Coquille, in addition to Oregon State Police and the Coos County Sheriff's Office, was called in to help in the investigation.
