REEDSPORT - From little town to big city back to small town, Reedsport's newest police officer has been around the West.
Officer Jared Banry is the newest member of the Reedsport Police Department. Born and raised in Central Point, Banry attended a six-month academy in the Nevada desert before becoming a member of the Las Vegas Metro squad.
"Trust me, it was much different than what I was used to growing up in," Banry said. "That's why I only lasted a year. Then I had to come back home."
Banry brings his wife, Danielle, and their two sons, Jared Jr. and Gaven, to town.
"I love to hunt and fish and we all love the coast," he said. "We thought Reedsport would also be a nice small community to raise the boys in."
Besides regular patrol duty, Banry also is a certified drug recognition specialist.
Banry also is looking to help in the community as a private citizen.
"I hope to lend some help to the wrestling program," he said.
"We are lucky to have an officer with Jared's experience and knowledge on the force. It's great to see that Reedsport is attractive to such qualified individuals," Chief Shawn Essex said.
Banry started last week.
