Gold Beach High names top students

Gold Beach High School Class of 2009’s graduation ceremony will be at 7 p.m. Friday June 5, at Colvin Court.
Valedictorians
Julia Denning is at the top of her graduating class with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Her academic awards and honors include a National Merit Scholar Letter of Commendation, a bronze medal at the 2009 International Sustainable World Project Olympiad, she was a three-time participant in Music in May at Pacific University.
Julia serves as president and community service committee chairman for GBHS’s chapter of the National English Honor Society, Southern Oregon Coast Youth Leadership summit organizer in 2007 and 2008, and has been a student council officer all four years.
Leea Rickard, daughter of Eric Rickard, has received outstanding academic awards in science, computers, art and Spanish. She also has received the Principal’s Academic Excellence Award and President’s Award for Academic Excellence.
She is a member of the National English Honor Society and a member of the Girls’ Mentoring program.
Salutatorian
Rendall MacLaurie has been actively involved in leadership roles over her tenure at GBHS and is student body president.
She maintains a challenging schedule of college preparatory coursework and is an outstanding athlete on the high school volleyball and basketball teams.
