Twenty-three years old, to some, might seem young to start a business. It also could seem like a risky thing to do, especially considering the recession.

But Stephanie Jensen decided to follow her dream in spite of these challenges.

On April 11, the North Bend resident opened Painted Zebra Designs upstairs inside Epiphany & Co. in North Bend.

“I just wanted to do a business for myself,” Jensen said. “The economy is pretty low, but I just said, ‘Why not?’ All you can do with the economy is grow with it.”

She said she saw a need in the area for a boutique like hers, that offers unique clothing, jewelry, handbags and more that would suit a variety of ages.

“I target 16 year olds to 60 year olds,” Jensen said.

To prepare for her grand opening today, a few days ago the 2004 North Bend High School graduate painted the business’ logo, a colorful zebra design, on the side of the building that faces the corner of Virginia Avenue and U.S. Highway 101.

This goes along with another one of her dreams. She plans to start her own house painting business sometime in the future.

She said she owes her confidence and creativity to her family, which has always been her source of inspiration.

“They all are amazing and hard workers,” Jensen said.
