Sirens blared through town as a North Bend man led police officers on a high-speed chase starting in North Bend and ending near Coquille. The chase hit speeds upward of 100 miles per hour after officers tried to arrest the driver of the green van on sex-related charges.

At about 6:27 p.m. on Wednesday, officers received a confidential report that Kenneth Moore, 44, was in the North Bend area and driving a van. Capt. Ron Akers said police were armed with a probable cause warrant to arrest Moore on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, first-degree sex abuse, first-degree unlawful sexual penetration with a foreign object, contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor and 27 counts of violation of a restraining order. About a minute later, they found the suspect at Union and Florida avenues.

"That's where the pursuit started," Akers said.

Moore sped off in a 1999 Dodge Caravan and led four patrol cars on the chase along U.S. Highway 101, across Highway 42 and to a dead-end on Garden Valley Lane. Moore's vehicle crashed and he ran from the scene, a North Bend Police Department press release said.

Law enforcement officers from the Coos County Sheriff's Office, the Oregon State Police, Coos County Parole & Probation and the Coquille Police Department assisted with the case.

Akers said officers brought in a police dog. Shortly after, Coquille Police Chief Mark Dannels, North Bend Officer Jon Bohanan and a parole and probation officer arrested Moore. During a search of the Caravan, they found a loaded .22 caliber pistol.

Moore was taken to the Coos County jail on charges of attempt to elude police on foot, reckless driving, felon in possession of a firearm and second-degree criminal mischief. He remained there this morning, on $3.2 million bail.

Akers said the investigation is ongoing.
