Soulpie is a collaboration of local musicians who are highly talented, experienced and come from all walks of life, dedicating themselves to the highest standards of performance and showmanship, according to the band’s Web site, www.soulpie.us.

“The band’s sound is a synthesis of musical traditions from the clean, precise, jazz-influenced sounds of New York City to the gritty soul and blues of Chicago and Memphis’ Stax of the 1960s,” the Web site said.

“With a repertoire spanning from Motown to Memphis, New York to New Orleans, from the cool grooves of the Neville Brothers, to the explosive intensity of James Brown and legendary Stax performers like Wilson Pickett, Soulpie will deliver the passion, commitment and the energized stage presence that captures the audience from the moment the band explodes onto the stage.”

Soulpie will perform at the following upcoming shows:

• 9 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute on the Southwestern Oregon Community College campus in Coos Bay. The third-annual Black & White Benefit Gala hosted by the Bay Area Sunrise Rotary will be from 6 to 11 p.m. A benefit for the Share Bear Snack Pack program. The rotary club has organized a foot-tapping good time for the community, with raffles, gourmet food, wine, artwork by local artisans and music by Soulpie, a press release said. Tickets cost $60 each and are available by calling rotary member Lynda Kristoffersen at 756-4570 or Jen Shilling at 888-7188.
