Artwalk offers a little something for everyone

The Coos Bay-North Bend Artwalk Association will host Artwalk  from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 14. It is a self-directed tour of art displays, culture and gourmet food in Downtown North Bend, Pony Village Mall, Coos Bay, and Empire. The association features one area on the walk each month; North Bend is the featured area this month. Visitors can start at any of the locations listed below. Each location will provide maps showing which venues are open for Artwalk.  For more information please call 756-1989.

North Bend

Crystal Dolphin Gallery, 1901 Sherman Ave. 756-1989, will feature local artist Adria Trail and her  paintings and drawings that show a unique and unusual persprective.

Easy Lane Frames & Select Art Gallery, 3440 Broadway, 756-7638, will host their spring show 'Springtime, Rhapsody in Green.' The work ranges from unique jewelry pieces, to assemblages, watercolors, acrylics, oils, photographs and hand-embellished fabric art. Visitors can help select the 'Best of Show'. 

Each time you vote you are eligible to win a $10 Dutch Brother's certificate.  The artist who wins 'Best of Show' will receive a $50 gift certificate to the gallery.  There are many excellent pieces of artwork that really depict the theme. 

May marks the gallery's third anniversary. As part of the celebration, the gallery will raffle off a popular framed digital print on canvas by Coquille artist, John Bishop. It is entitled 'Afternoon Storm' and shows the Coquille River Lighthouse with a huge wave breaking around it.  This work is valued at $280.  Rraffle tickets are $5 each and when the total sold reaches $200, one ticket will be drawn.

Gallery By The Bay, 2100 Union Ave. 267-2693, will feature the watercolor work of Carolyn Le Grand. The gallery also will host a variety of work from her SWOYA art students. The young artists' reception is from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Le Grand's prints and art cards will be on sale. A free drawing for one of her art cards will be at 7 p.m.

The Framery, 1774 Union Ave. 756-0797, will host visiting artist Chris Jones with his eclectic ÒFish ArtÓ that uses several media. Refreshments will be served.

Sozo Tea and Coffee House, 1955 Union Ave., will be open until 7 p.m. The coffee house will have new art and will offer the free 8-ounce Artwalk latte.

Pony Village Mall

The Artist Loft Gallery, Suite 103 756-4088, will host artist Sharon Backues as the featured artist this month. Backues' painting is called 'Flowers From Dennis' Garden. Well-known teacher and artist Pat Weaver is the guest artist. Weaver works in oils, pastels and watercolors.

East Wing Art Wall, at the mall's East Wing entrance, will feature ink drawings and acrylic paintings by Norm Gould.

Heritage Textile Arts Guild, Suite 157A, is a working fiber arts studio featuring unique, handcrafted items including wearables, table and kitchen linens, handspun yarn and gift items. There are looms and other tools of the trade on display. Lessons are available in weaving, knitting, crochet and felting. Assistance with problem projects will be available.

The Rose Palette Art Studio & Gallery, 290-7858, will show work by Priscilla Wyatt as well as work done by studio students.  Snacks will be available.

Empire

Java Jones Coffee House and Art Gallery, 757 Newmark Ave. 888-4477, will feature Stacey Johnson's photography, Colleen Hedberg's bead work and Shilo's paintings. Food and drinks will be available. The Worn Out Frets will perform from 5 to 8 p.m.

Empire Flea Market, 1070 Newmark Ave. 260-9500,  Funtime fotos studio will showcase the work of three local photographers. Tiffany Willy will be the featured artist.

Talking Sky Beads and Jewelry, 1165 Newmark Ave. suite D, by Nita Branom, featuring Contemporary and traditional beadwork, contemporary bridal jewelry and unique handcrafted gifts for yourself or a friend.

Coos Bay

Coos Art Museum, 235 Anderson, will host the Expression West exhibit. 267-3901.
