The U.S. Bureau of Land Management will spend around $100,000 to upgrade the Loon Lake Recreation Area park. People who camp and play on the beach there can thank the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The money is part of a $32.4 million stimulus funding package to the BLM in Oregon and Washington.

The project includes maintenance and upgrades at the BLM's park, including paving, gate replacement, new interpretive panels, and implementation of a native vegetation management plan,  BLM press release said.

"Much of the infrastructure at Loon Lake was constructed over 30 years ago and is in need of repair and replacement," said Dennis Turowski, Umpqua Field Manager in the release. "The project will ensure we continue to provide a safe and fun experience at the lake."

Work on the Loon Lake project is expected to create jobs in paving, fabrication and landscaping over the next year.

"We are just excited to get these implemented on the ground and work with the community," BLM spokeswoman Megan Harper said.
