McKelvey has a private practice in general pediatrics and adolescents in Coos Bay. Her practice has been part of the American Academy of Pediatrics PROS (Pediatric Research in Office Setting) Network since 1997, and she also participates in the Oregon Rural Practice Research Network. She has also been a clinical assistant professor at OHSU’s Department of Pediatrics since 1997 and serves as director of Continuing Medical Education at Bay Area Hospital.

McKelvey has been active in the American Academy of Pediatrics for 20 years. She was president of the Southwest Oregon Medical Association in 2004 and has been a delegate, vice speaker and speaker of the house of the Oregon Medical Association. She works on pubic health issues in Coos County and has been recognized for “making a difference for women.”
