COQUILLE - A former Coquille police officer and his wife will be back in court next month after being arraigned on charges from a St. Patrick's Day night incident involving teens and alcohol.
Coos County Circuit Court Judge Richard Barron entered a not guilty plea on behalf of James and Tammy Bryant on Tuesday. The couple is scheduled to appear on June 22 for a plea-change hearing.
Coos Bay police arrested James Bryant on three counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor and attempting to contribute to the sexual delinquency of a minor in March 18. Tammy Bryant is charged with one count of furnishing alcohol to a minor. The charges allege James Bryant gave alcohol to three people younger than 21 years of age and tried to have sex with a girl younger than 18. Tammy Bryant was not arrested, but charged after an investigation.
Bryant resigned from the Coquille Police Department at the beginning of April.
Barron released the Bryants on their own recognizance with the condition they have no contact with those involved in the case.
They refused comment on the charges after Tuesday's arraignment.
Furnishing alcohol to a minor is a class A misdemeanor, punishable with a maximum one-year sentence and a fine not to exceed $6,250. Attempting to contribute to the sexual delinquency of a minor is a class B misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of 6 months and a fine of $2,500.
