The Leadership Coos program will be the topic for this week's Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Independent Business Operators luncheon forum Wednesday in North Bend. Leadership Coos Chairwoman Beth Gipson and past chairwoman Donna Nichols will make presentations. Leadership Coos is encouraging all alumni to turn out for this event.

The forum lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Salmon Room at The Mill Casino-Hotel. To reserve a seat, call the chamber at 266-0868.

Also this week, the Transportation Committee meets to talk about the nation's increasing freight transportation needs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday. Bring your own lunch.

The group will meet in the third floor conference room in the Hub Building, 125 Central Ave., Coos Bay. Guest speaker will be Danielle Valentino, field director for Growth Options for the 21st Century (Go21). Go21 is a nonprofit, grassroots organization dedicated to finding solutions to increasing freight transportation needs. The group's goal is to unite community leaders and organizations in support of a stronger economy, effective solutions to highway congestion, a cleaner environment, and improved quality of life by advocating increased use of freight railroad transportation.
