Church women's Friendship Day honors volunteers

Wednesday, April 29, 2009 |
Church Women United will be honoring two community volunteers as "valiant women" at its May Friendship Day celebration on Friday.
The theme this year's event, "Building on Our Stories," is an invitation to a journey through memories, a press release said. As is the tradition on May Friendship Day, churches and the organization will honor Jeanette Stonebraker and Rosemary McLean.
Stonebraker from Faith Lutheran in North Bend is a church and community organizer. She is involved in the food cupboard, Seaman's Center, Thri-Vent Financial for Lutherans, Holiday Community dinners and many other church and community programs.
McLean from First Presbyterian of Bandon is a tireless worker in her church on the local, state and national level and is one of the founding women of Church Women United in this area. Her work in CWU began in the 1940s.
The program will focus on all who came before - the leaders, guides and mentors that showed the way to all other women.
The event begins with a salad lunch at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2250 16th St., in North Bend.
