Reedport man dies in Central Oregon crash

Monday, April 27, 2009 |
Oregon State Police investigators say a Reedsport man killed in a crash Saturday night wasn't wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his pickup.
Fifty-year-old Jackie L. Mather Jr. died in the single-vehicle accident at about 6:35 p.m. along state Highway 361 just south of Metolius. He was northbound in a 1992 Dodge Dakota pickup near milepost 6, attempting to pass a vehicle, when he apparently lost control, Oregon State Police Sgt. Don Wagner said in a press release.
Mather Jr. veered off the east side of the highway, over-corrected and the pickup overturned coming to rest on the west side of the highway.
An ambulance took Mather to a Madras hospital, where he died, the report said.
The Oregon Department of Transportation reduced traffic on the highway to one lane for approximately three hours following the accident.
