Marshall and Betty Emmons celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary April 23, 2009.

The couple was married April 23, 1949, in the Thor Thatcher Funeral Home, where services were being held while the new Episcopal Church was being built on Fourth Street and Highland in Coos Bay.

Marshall was born in Eastside and worked many jobs in the area including logging, working on tug boats, owning the 7-Eleven store in Empire and driving his own log truck.

Betty moved to Portland from Helena, Mont., to attend St. Vincent Nursing School. She came to North Bend with a friend for a vacation and stayed, working for Keizer Hospital and then North Bend Medical Center until her retirement.

They have two daughters, Marsha Button and Karen Crawford of Coos Bay, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The Emmons have enjoyed 20 years of retirement traveling, camping and fishing with their children, grandchildren and wonderful longtime friends.
