Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier has filed formal charges against former Coquille police officer James Bryant and his wife, Tammy Bryant.
The district attorney is charging James Bryant with three counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor and one count of attempting to contribute to the sexual delinquency of a minor. A District Attorney's Office press release said Bryant provided alcohol to three different individuals younger than 21 years of age and attempted to have sexual intercourse with a girl younger than 18.
The DA charged Tammy Bryant with one count with furnishing alcohol to a minor.
Police arrested James Bryant on March 18. Officers started an investigation after a citizen called police, alleging Bryant gave alcohol to a teenage girl and tried to get another to engage in a sexual act in Coos Bay on March 17 or 18.
The DA also has asked Coos Bay police to issue citations of allowing consumption of alcohol by a minor on a property to Michael and Cynthia Wallace, the people in charge of the premises, the press release said. The Wallaces were not related to the minors involved in the case, Coos Bay police Capt. Gary McCullough said.
Furnishing alcohol to a minor is a class A misdemeanor, punishable with a maximum one-year sentence and a fine not to exceed $6,250. Attempting to contribute to the sexual delinquency of a minor is a class B misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of 6 months and a fine of $2,500. The Wallaces' citations are a violation and subject to mandatory fine of $350.
James and Tammy Bryant are scheduled to appear in Coos County Circuit Court at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5.
