BOYS TENNIS
Pirates again tie Cavemen
Marshfield’s boys tennis team faced visiting Grants Pass on Monday in a rematch of teams that tied 4-4 on Friday, and Monday’s match yielded the same result.
The Pirates won just one singles match, when David Stys topped Dakota Clayton 6-1, 7-5 in the No. 2 slot. Marshfield’s No. 1 singles player, Jon Massie, took Mickey Allapach to three sets before losing 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. Massie had defeated Allapach on Friday in another close match.

Grants Pass blasts Bulldogs
Visiting Grants Pass handed North Bend’s boys tennis team an 8-0 loss on Monday afternoon.
“They’ve got a good top of the order there,” said Bulldogs coach Dustin Hood of the Cavemen. “That makes you stronger down the line.”
None of the matches went to three sets, but two North Bend teams did force tiebreakers in second sets. North Bend’s No. 2 singles player, Zach Reichenberger, fell to Jordan Van Delden 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) and Joel Bolton and Chris Karavanavich fell to Lars Lukas and Zach Kay 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in No. 4 doubles.

The Bulldogs’ lone win came at No. 1 doubles, where Gwen Rogers and Brianna Blaser teamed for a straight-sets victory.
“Brianna Blaser and Gwen Rogers played the beset doubles match I have seen from our squad all year,” North Bend coach Simmie Muth said. “They were aggressive at the net and put balls away on the first opportunity. It was nice to see all their hard work pay off in a match.”
Grants Pass won all the other matches in straight sets.
PIrates drop two on road trip
Marshfield fell twice on Friday, losing 6-2 to Grants Pass and 7-1 to Ashland.
