Police arrested a Coos Bay man Thursday on charges he sexually abused a 13-year-old girl. The same day, Coquille police arrested another Coos Bay man in an unrelated case on charges including first-degree rape.
Following a week-long investigation, police went to an apartment complex at 324 N. Ackerman St. in Coos Bay, and arrested John M. Dutcher, 54, on charges including nine counts of first-degree sexual abuse, five counts of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, two counts of first-degree sodomy and two counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor. He was taken to Coos County jail, where he was being held this morning on $12 million bail.
Police are continuing their investigation with help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, assisting with analyzing evidence.
Capt. Cal Mitts would not say what kind of relationship the victim had with Dutcher, who is a long-haul truck driver.
In Coquille, police responded to a 10 a.m. report of a domestic incident involving a 23-year-old woman. Later that day officers arrested Juan Ledesma-Laguna, 33, on charges of first-degree rape, strangulation, fourth-degree domestic assault and interfering with a 911 call. He was taken to Coos County jail, where he was being held this morning on $772,500 bail.
Coquille Police Chief Mark Dannels said Ledesma-Laguna was a past boyfriend of the victim. Coos Bay police assisted in the arrest.
Neither man has a criminal history in Oregon, according to a State Courts spokeswoman in Coquille.
