Police arrested a Coos Bay man Thursday on charges he sexually abused a 13-year-old girl. The same day, Coquille police arrested another Coos Bay man in an unrelated case on charges including first-degree rape.

Following a week-long investigation, police went to an apartment complex at 324 N. Ackerman St. in Coos Bay, and arrested John M. Dutcher, 54, on charges including nine counts of first-degree sexual abuse, five counts of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, two counts of first-degree sodomy and two counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor. He was taken to Coos County jail, where he was being held this morning on $12 million bail.

Police are continuing their investigation with help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, assisting with analyzing evidence.

Capt. Cal Mitts would not say what kind of relationship the victim had with Dutcher, who is a long-haul truck driver.

In Coquille, police responded to a 10 a.m. report of a domestic incident involving a 23-year-old woman. Later that day officers arrested Juan Ledesma-Laguna, 33, on charges of first-degree rape, strangulation, fourth-degree domestic assault and interfering with a 911 call. He was taken to Coos County jail, where he was being held this morning on $772,500 bail.

Coquille Police Chief Mark Dannels said Ledesma-Laguna was a past boyfriend of the victim. Coos Bay police assisted in the arrest.

Neither man has a criminal history in Oregon, according to a State Courts spokeswoman in Coquille.

WOW! Coos Bay has been quick to criticize Coquille about all our mishaps lately, maybe you shouldn't be so quick to sling mud! Look at your OWN community!!

I think they're putting something in the water to make all these guys horny. Coos County is the sex capital of Oregon. Especially for pedophiles.

Hmmm, wonder if anyone will wear black in support of these fellas...same type of crimes. So tell me, what makes the difference in who we choose to support? I bet these guys were considered "nice guys" too. This County has a serious sex offender problem. I'm with you Vonnie, we need to hold them accountable.

Vonnie wrote on Apr 10, 2009 11:54 AM:

WTH is this county coming to! I have been a VERY proud citizen here since 1978. My husband and I moved our family here from San Diego just because of this very reason, the crime, the rapes and so on. This past couple of years almost every other day, we are hearing a child is being raped, sodomized and severly abused! I am a grandmother of 12 precious grandchildren, all but 2 of them live here and this just scares me to death that at any time some sicko could grab them up and it could happen to them! These sex offenders need to be castrated, locked up on an island with each other and NEVER let loose in the public even after one time of abusing a child. Parents, hold your babies close and don't let them out of your sight for even a moment!
