Fine for some weed = $907

Fine for a rape = $607

Fine for Identity Theft = $294

Funny how a victimless crime has a bigger fine than ones with a REAL victim!

LEGALIZE IT. TAX IT. RECOGNIZE THAT PROHIBITION DOES NOT WORK.

SOMEONE wrote on Apr 10, 2009 1:23 PM:

this is in response to "hmmm" not sure what you mean about attacking someone with a knife and getting just a few days. the guy who attacked several people with a knife in december is in jail for over 8 years. that seems fair to me. the guy who showed a knife in a store was going for armed robbery. and i don't see long sentences for meth or pot. maybe you should reread the sentences.

This is the same posting for over a week now.does this mean if its not front page then we get to keep reading the same stuff over and over?

Justice wrote on Apr 9, 2009 9:36 PM:

so you commit a felony(punishable by imprisonment in the state prison for over a year) or a few of them and get 8 to 40 days in jail. I wonder how the victims feel. How's your credit or car insurance now that your identity or car was taken. Wonder what would happen if the DA's identity or car got stolen? Bet it would net more than 8 to 40 days in jail. What about misdemeanors (Punishable by less than a year in county jail). Those are just speeding tickets now. No wonder criminals stay in our area, great message to send them. Just don't rape or kill and you'll be out in a few days on probation.

These SAME sentencings and dismissals have been posted for at least a week now. Nothing new going on down there?

Hmmm. wrote on Apr 9, 2009 11:37 AM:

so someone can attack you with a knive and stab you and gets 35-40 days in jail, but you just show a knive in a store and you get 15 years. For that matter get caught with marijauna or meth and spend more time in jail. JUSTICE. Just something to make you go Hmmmm.....

Don't you spell it Methamphetamine? It is spelled methamphitamine in the paper...sorry just thought it was kind of a funny observation...

we put a rapist away for 20 years and a child pornographer away for 14 years. i don't understand what everyone is complaining about.

YOU NEVER KNOW wrote on Apr 8, 2009 1:18 PM:

concerning the identity theft, someone once found my sons reliacard, with a zero balance, and had it in his pocket when he was arrested for something else. he was charged with identity theft and had never even tried to use the card or anything. it was just in his possession. so what you read in the paper isn't always black and white. unathorized use of a vehicle is the new phrasing for auto theft. you just have to have the details before you can make judgements.

That would be nice if it were true, and it may be the case at times....but Hoppe has been on this list several times in the last 25 years. If we aren't going to give punishment that works, why waste our time and the tax payers money on nonsense sentencing....It's not getting the message across....

Reply to JUST THINKIN wrote on Apr 6, 2009 2:38 PM:

Maybe there are other circumstances involved with these cases that you don't know about! Sometimes judges look at people's previous records and sentence accordingly. It seems to me that the person who stole a car probably had a shady criminal record or something and that's why they got more time. Maybe that's something you should think about.

Just Thinkin wrote on Apr 4, 2009 8:49 AM:

You get 8 days for pot, 8 days for TWO counts of IDENTITY THEFT which to me that should be a biggie! And then FORTY days for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle! So, by my calculations, you steal someones identity, you get a slap on the wrist, you steal someones car, boy watch out you will really get into trouble! What a form of justice
do we really have here?
