Sunday’s blustery weather played havoc with drivers when a number of fallen trees and mudslides blocked area roadways.
A rock slide that closed state Highway 126, 8 miles west of Walton on Sunday and still was blocking the highway this morning.
Drivers were told to use Highway 38 as an alternate route from Interstate 5 to the coast until the road re-opened around 10:30 this morning.
An Oregon Department of Transportation geotechnical engineer examined the slide area and deemed it stable. ODOT spokesman Jared Castle said the slide is in an area that frequently has debris flows after heavy rains.
“The ground couldn’t handle the saturation,” Castle said.
