Shoreline Education for Awareness, a nonprofit wildlife interpretive organization will present a talk on the mysteries of the ocean on Saturday in Charleston.

Oregon Institute of Marine Biology professor Dr. Alan Shanks will present the morning session on the mysteries of the ocean, its behavior and some of the animals that live in it. Shanks’ research is primarily focused on the biology of larval invertebrates and fishes.

Marty Giles, of Wavecrest Discoveries, will give the afternoon presentation on sand. Giles specializes in environmental interpretation.  

The SEA seminar will be held at the OIMB boathouse auditorium at the end of Boat Basin Drive. It begins at 9 a.m., with the door opening at 8:30. The cost is $5 per person (free to members), and $6 per person for those who would like catered lunches. Membership is available at check-in, $20 individual, $35 for a family. The afternoon session begins at 1 p.m. and ends by 3 p.m.

Parking is available along Boat Basin Road or on the OIMB parking lot across from the OIMB entrance sign. Handicapped persons may be driven to the auditorium, but the vehicle must be returned to the parking area.
