Fire departments get FEMA grants

Three South Coast fire departments have an additional $600,000 for operations thanks to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
FEMA announced awards totaling almost $1.7 million from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program for Oregon.
The grants focus on enhancing fire operations and safety.
• Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue: $408,438
• Harbor Rural Fire Protection District: $103,459
• North Bend Fire Department: $110,180
The program is an important component of the administration’s larger, coordinated effort to strengthen the nation’s overall level of preparedness, the press release said.
Fire departments can use the money to for training, first responder health and safety programs, and to buy equipment and response vehicles.
